Ex-Fugee and Haitian Presidential candidate Wyclef Jean has announced that he has decided to take a break from music to focus on his political campaign.
In a video interview, Wyclef states that his inspiration to run for president came after the devastating Haitian earthquake and after observing how the political machine in the country has been ran for the last 200 years.
“I honestly made the decision to run after watching the country being ran the same way for over 200 years,” Wyclef said. “It is important that we get a breath of fresh air. When you have a youth population that is the majority that can't read and can't write that's a problem.”Wyclef also states that building his native country's economy is top priority on his agenda.
“We used to be a country with a great export market that made up the majority of the country's economy,” Wyclef continued. “In order to make an impact in the 21st Century, you need a president that can travel the globe.”In addition Wyclef has braced fans that if elected he will no longer be making music.
“As sad as it sounds we are putting the final touches on what could be the last Wyclef album,” Wyclef said. “I think that if the vote turns out like it should, that my primary focus will be rebuilding Haiti.”Check out the interview:
